Teddy Bear Picnic

Our Teddy Bear Picnic was a lot of fun. The children really enjoyed bringing their little stuffed animals to school. As you can see some of the stuffies got really into the work. They also made their own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.. with NO mess! Their practical life skills are really improving. Next time they have a sandwich let them show you their great spreading skills. :)

Snakey

We do have another class pet. He is a King snake named Snakey. We tried to feed him this week(he will usually eat in front of the kids), but this week he was too cold.
So instead, they all got to take turns giving him a little love. Don't worry Moms, they all used germ killer after! :)

Volcanos

This last week we have been learning about the layers of the earth and also all about volcanos!

A Special Guest

We had a very special guest for Veteran's Day. One of the children in the class has a Dad that has been in Iraq for the past 18 months. He just recently got home and was willing to come visit us on a short notice! We learned all about his uniform and what all the symbols meant. We learned what being a Veteran is, and also about being grateful for out freedoms and for the men and woman who protect us.
Since then we have also had a discussion on what freedom means and all the things that we are free to do.

Step Boards

Has your child ever come home with a strip of paper that didn't seem to make sense? Some crayon letters or numbers in no particular order? If so that means they were working on a step board! We have number boards that you can do what comes next, counting, and even addition and subtraction. We also have language boards where you put the letter of the first sound of a word and much more. The boards progress with the child, and you can always find new work on these. They are also self correcting, if you do not have the right answer, the piece will not fit into the slot.

You might have your child come home one day with a BIG paper with the numbers 1 to 100 on it. That means they had a blank board and they put the numbers from 1 to 100 by themselves on the board. That is a REALLY big work and they are usually very proud to do it!

Our Feelings Tray

One of our new things to do this year in the classroom is our Feelings Tray. The children love to do this. We pass the tray around from friend to friend and everyone picks a feeling from the tray. We have sad, anger, happy, scared, love, and the new feeling for November is gratitude. They then tell us how they are feeling and they get to put it in the cup. It has been very rewarding hearing what the children have to say. I think we will continue this throughout the year.

Halloween Party

We had SUCH a fun time this year at our Halloween Party.
We started with a Costume Parade.

We decorated treat bags

We played Ghost Bingo, Where's Jack and Musical Chairs.

The morning class got a visit from Miss Julie the Witch who made the yummiest "Witch's Brew".

We decorated cookies for snack.

Here is a little movie of our snack song.

We had to finish the day by reading our favorite book! ( another little video)
